When Acer began doing business in the early 2000s, it transitioned from being a manufacturer to being a designer, marketer, and distributor of products, with production processes being handled by contract manufacturers. In addition to its core IT products business, Acer also has a new business entity that integrates cloud services and platforms, as well as develops smartphones and wearables with IoT applications with value.
